Day 118-Let Them Eat Gravel- July 24, 2006
Ouch! Today I fell off my bike. Ever since I’ve been in my area, there has been construction going on. They are widening the streets. The sidewalks are being torn up to make room for the expanding road. As a result, some parts have no sidewalk at all.
Here’s what happened: I was biking, leading the way, when all of a sudden the sidewalk ended. I veer right, not wanting to go through a bumpy unfinished road (I guess I could have veered left into traffic!). By going right, I ended up heading down a bumpy gravel hill. I applied my brakes, flew over my handlebars, and ended up eating a mouthful of gravel. I was spitting out rocks and gravel for the next half hour. I got a nice, big bruise on the right side of my face and my upper lip is swollen.
I went home to take a shower. I got all clean and changed pants. Elder Pierce said the bruise should go away in a week or four. My bike got a little banged up in the crash. Nothing too bad, but my companion wanted to try and fix it. We went to A-1Cycling to buy some parts. It reminded me of {Day 37} but I did not get hurt. When we got back, Elder Pierce worked on my bike. I still need to take it in for some major repairs, but that can be done later. He helped me repair my bike. What a great friend. Thank you, Elder Pierce.
Two quick points about today: First, I want to point out the irony of what I said on {Day 117}. I ended yesterdays entry by saying the rest of the week is looking up and the next day I end up with a mouthful of gravel. I didn’t know I would be looking up…from the ground! How ironic.
Point Two: {Day 37} was the day before my first zone conference. I just thought I’d point out how the day before this conference and the day before my first zone conference were used to get parts for our bikes.
Well, tomorrow is Zone Conference with our new mission president. I can’t wait. My talk is all done…sort of…almost…kinda…
