Day 108 – No Double Piercings-July 14, 2006

Elder Kristopher “Kris” Pierce is from Ogden, Utah. He’s the youngest of four. His family is less active and not the most supportive you could be about his decision to serve a mission. I mean, they love him, of course and his mom writes him almost every week, but they said he couldn’t go unless he paid for half of it himself. Which, don’t get me wrong, that isn’t a bad thing, but there is also the fact that his older brothers left the church, so they don’t understand why their younger brother is doing what he is doing. Elder Pierce knows. I know as well.
In his ward back home in Utah, Elder is just about the only youth. He said that over 75% of ward is over 65 years old. He said that there are some young married couples there as well, but they usually have only one baby, about 6 months old. He explained it to me this way, “In my ward back home, you’re either newly-wed or nearly dead.” Clever.
We had dinner today at Brother and Sister W’s house. One the way over Brother W said, “I told my wife we’d gotten two Elder Pierces in our ward. “Boy, word sure travels fast”, I thought. He then told us, “My wife said, ‘The mission president can’t put them together. The Prophet said no double piercings!’” “No double piercings.” Ha, ha. That’s pretty good. So good in fact that it’s today’s: “Quote of the Day!!!”
